About McAlear-Sawden

McAlear-Sawden serves approximately 355 kindergarten through fifth grade students and 32 pre-school students mainly from Monitor, Kawkawlin and Beaver Townships in Bay County. We offer two or three classes per each grade depending on the class sizes. Our teachers are in their third year of Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures training with an emphasis on increasing student engagement. In addition, our staff has been trained in Capturing Kids' Hearts which focuses on social-emotional wellbeing, relationship-driven school culture, and student connectedness. Furthermore, our students are exposed to hands-on-learning and technology enhanced instruction throughout the school year.

McAlear-Sawden is an exciting place to learn with a dedicated staff who strives to bring out the best in each student. A variety of special subjects are included in our curriculum such as; Physical Education, Media, Music, and Discovery Through the Arts. Additionally, to meet the wide variey of nees of all of our students, we offer the Program for the Academically Talented in 3rd-5th grades as well as Special Education services in all grade levels. Author visits, educational assemblies, and field trips also support our curriculum. We have an active volunteer program and welcome parental involvement.
