STEAM in Our School
STEM education refers to the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
STEAM education incorporates the “A” for the Arts– recognizing that to be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are best developed through exposure to the arts.
The STEAM Explore Classes in Bay City Public Schools are interdisciplinary, incorporating real-world processes of teaching where core subjects not taught in isolation, much like what students will encounter in this world of global diversity. Rigorous, core curriculum is applied through STEAM-focused projects/activities. The “Engineering is Elementary” Curriculum is the primary resource used in STEAM, but many engineering challenges are presented to students in a hands-on, maker approach.
The primary goals of all STEAM teachers in BCPS are:
Teamwork: Students communicating and cooperating with each other\ Creativity: Students think critically, creatively, and innovatively\ Perseverance: Students have opportunities to fail and try again
